Asarum canadense- Found in moist deciduous woods and growing up to 8" in height.  Leaves grow in pairs and appear heart-shaped to kidney-shaped with dark green leaf venation.  A purplish-brown flower blooms in the spring and the stem/shallow root system of the plant produces a ginger-like aroma.  Prefers moist, humus-rich soil in part to full shade.  Excellent groundcover for shady areas.
